a visit from Flat Stanley...

Today Squirrel Meat and I took our friend, Flat Stanley, on a trip up the northcoast on Hwy 101. It was a beautiful fall day and if you found a protected spot from the wind, you could soak up the autumn sun for hours. The first super cool thing we all saw today were some Roosevelt Elk. A very large group of females, their youngsters and one BIG buck.

Next, we were off to see some big trees. The redwoods of course, and boy did we find some big ones. You could hardly even see Flat Stanley next to the tree. He seemed almost fairy sized compared to the towering giants.

On our way back we stopped for a little more sun at the beach. Flat Stanley took a liking to the sand. We had a hard time talking him into getting back into the car.

Thanks to Flat Stanley, Squirrel Meat and I had a great day on the northcoast! It was nice getting to know Flat Stanley and we wish him well on his journey back to New Jersey.

Flat Stanley is sure lucky to have had the opportunity to share such a great day with you and Squirrel Meat. He probably never saw an elk before, and he must have been really amazed looking up at that big Redwood tree. But he looks most content at the beach. I’ll bet he took off his shoes and wiggled his toes in the warm sand while listening to the waves breaking and smelling the fresh salt air. No wonder he didn't want to leave! By now he’s probably home in New Jersey sharing the details of all he learned and experienced on this fun day with his good friends from Arcata. Perhaps he’s dreaming of returning someday for another adventure with you.
